You Say You Want A Revolution….
What started as a revolution changed the world and gave birth to a new nation. Our forefathers and mothers fought the good fight to give birth to a new nation that would be founded on freedoms and rights that would allow us today to live free of tyranny. To have a republic that is for the people BY the people.
What an amazing concept.
We are a young nation and still grappling with our freedom….freedom comes with a price.
As we kick back with BBQ’s, parades and the essential fireworks…let’s not forget how we got here. This day is made possible by those who fight to keep us free every day. The military around the world who sacrifice their own freedom and lives daily to ensure we can enjoy our freedom back here in the United States. This past week, this story hit home as a local young man, Eugene Mills, from Laurel, Md (which is my hometown) was killed in action in Afghanistan performing his service to his nation. Eugene decided at 11 years old after seeing the towers fall in New York during 9/11 to commit his life to service to our nation. And he didn’t give up on his commitment. At age 21, Eugene’s life was cut short. His father, a lifelong member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and former Prince George County police officer knows a thing or two about sacrifice and service to others.
Freedom isn’t free. Independence has a price. You say you want a revolution….you need to know the cost before you enter the fray.
To all the Eugene’s….I say thank you. Even though it’s not enough, it’s all I can offer to allow us to enjoy the ability to have this Independence Day to enjoy with our families. Eugene’s family will not have another day to enjoy with him but hopefully they will be able to take comfort knowing that he died doing what he loved and he gave his life so that we all could have the freedom we hold dear. This is after all, the home of the brave and the land of the free.
God Bless The USA.
Let Freedom Ring.
Really appreciate your post today. Thanks for reminding us that it’s not usually us who pay the ultimate price for our freedoms – and reminding us that we are all in this together when we are mindful of others’ sacrifices for us. Perhaps this gratitude – and the actions springing form it – are the foundation of the responsibility we bear that goes along with our freedom.
Thanks for YOUR mindfulness and contribution.

Very well said, David. Thank you. Thank you for that comment. We are all in this together. Thank you for your mindfulness and contribution. Wishing you a wonderful holiday. Cheers.
Reblogged this on tryjimmy.
Thanks for the reblog.
Very thoughtful words, Jen! Thank you. Additionally, perhaps there is no greater way to reflect on what celebrating Independence Day should mean to each of us than to remember the words of some of the greatest leaders throughout U.S. history. http://www.liveitforward.com/celebrating-independence-day/
Thanks, Kent. I believe that as well. Our independence has come at a great price. Everyday we should take the time to reflect those who sacrifice so that we can have our freedoms. There are many leaders who have come before that have had impact on our history and we should continue to honor their legacy. Thank you.
